About the Area

Ystradgynlais is nestled at the top of the Swansea Valley on the edge of the Brecon National Park. With a population of around 9000 Ystradgynlais is officially a small town yet it and the surrounding areas still enjoy the village community lost in so many places.

There is an abundance of countryside and walks plus the route 43 cycle path. The National Park offers more outdoor pursuits including hill walking, caving, pony trekking and canoeing. The Dan yr Ogof show caves , some of the biggest in Europe are some three miles away and Craig y Nos Castle, once owned by Adelina Patti the Opera singer and a favourite of her and Prince George is now a Country Hotel.

Commuting finds Swansea, Brecon and Neath app. 25 minutes away with access to the M4 Motorway even closer.

Ystradgynlais has four modern primary schools in the area, one of which is Welsh medium together with both English and Welsh medium senior schools. There are good local shopping and banking facilities.
